Araya, 'Ariyan,Arayan, Arayar are the words used to denote the Aryan race in pali language. Sree Buddha was referred as ''Ariyan' in the ancient Tamil literature. Later the Buddhist shakya gotra was known as Arayar/ arayas , Mutharayar pallavarayar , Arayar, muniyarayar are some of the title names in South India and these people are believed to be the descendants of koli-shakya of suryavamshi Kshatriyas.
